A savings account pays you interest on your balance with no lock-in or minimum term. They are the ideal complement to fixed-term deposits: while a deposit maximises yield by locking capital, a savings account offers total liquidity. APYData compares all savings accounts available to residents in Spain in real time, sorted by APY.

Before comparing accounts, it helps to understand when a savings account makes more sense than a deposit:
| Savings account | Fixed-term deposit | |
|---|---|---|
| Liquidity | Instant | At maturity |
| Typical APY (2026) | 2.0–2.5% | 2.5–3.5% |
| Commitment | None | 6–24 months |
| Best for | Emergency fund, day-to-day savings | Medium-term savings |
The most common strategy: savings account for the emergency fund (3–6 months of expenses) and fixed-term deposit for medium-term savings you won't need. Many savers use both in parallel.
The most aggressive offer on the market, conditional on payroll domiciliation. The 5% APY applies for the first 12 months on up to €5,000, with a minimum salary of €800/month. After year one, the rate drops to the standard tier. Best for those switching their main bank account, not for parking large amounts.
The best unconditional APY among major Spanish banks in 2026. No payroll requirement, no mandatory direct debits, no fees. Available fully online. Protected by the Spanish FGD up to €100,000.
Bunq is a Dutch neobank with a full banking licence. Its Easy Savings account offers 2.31% on the available balance, with instant liquidity and EU DGS coverage up to €100,000. Particularly valued by frequent travellers.
MyInvestor (2.10%) and Trade Republic (2.02%) are the two benchmarks in Spain for no-conditions savings accounts. The 8 basis point difference is minimal in absolute terms — on €50,000 it's €40/year. The choice between them depends more on the ecosystem than the APY. Read our full MyInvestor vs Trade Republic comparison.
Neobanks with a full banking licence have the same DGS protection as traditional banks:
All are EU DGS funds under the same legal framework (Directive 2014/49/EU), with the same €100,000 limit. The only practical difference is the language of the claims process in case of insolvency — which hasn't occurred for any of these banks.
Some banks offer very high promotional rates (4–5%) for the first few months for new customers, usually conditional on payroll domiciliation or reaching a minimum balance. These rates are real but temporary. APYData shows the ordinary (unconditional) APY in the main comparison, with conditions detailed in each product's notes.
